Dead Blog Ranking

Tags: ,

Technorati, like any service striving to be the best it can possibly be, experiences growing pains from time to time. It's most notorious "pain" was the 18 months it ignored Xu Jinglei's blog, which was the world's #1 blog, with nary a mention on T'rati: NADA! (There's a link to her blog in my sidebar... see if you can find it!)

Now for all you internet marketers eager to raise your rankings so you can sell more ads... Check this out.

Near the end of last summer, I felt it was time to transition away from my old Capital Region People blog, so I started a new blog on a service called blog-hi. I wasn't there more than a few months when the service announced it was folding. I bounced back home to wonderful blogspot. Somebody came along and bailed out blog-hi... I expected my old, inactive blog would eventually be deleted, but it stayed there... frozen... I lost the password until recently. When I finally was able to get back I deleted the old posts and put a note up that folks should come here to my blogspot blog. But check out these upside down Technorati Stats from Sunday circa 7pm:

MOVED OUT! - Dave Lucas thumbnail
Rank: 34,199

WOW... # 34,199 out of more than 55 Million Blogs out there... and I wasn't even posting... and there's been no new content for almost a year! PLUS I had screwed up the template and you couldn't read what WAS on the blog!! NOW check out THIS HUMBLE BLOG's stats... the one you're reading right now...

Rank: 51,929

HUH? I post new stuff at least twice a day... hey, let's check out the old Capital Region People blog, just for fun:

Dave Lucas' Archives thumbnail
Rank: 285,387

I haven't posted anything relevant since last year around this time, other than a new post here and there to wake people up to the fact that I moved to a new blog...

Logic tells me that if that blog-hi blog is ranked 34,199 Capital Region People oughta be at least in the 15,000 area (or higher) : it was very popular and had more hits in one single day in August of 2005 than my blog-hi blog has had since it was created!

I noticed many other blog-hi blogs rank highly. Like this one:

 Muslim Woman thumbnail
Rank: 13,640

I also noticed that the "Muslim Woman" has 4,005 blog reactions on Technorati: although they are different blogs, the entire first page of reactions comes from "blogHi! start your blog - FREE" and if you visit the individual blogs, they don't mention "Muslim Woman" anyhwhere... a glitch, perhaps?

Hey, Technorati guys and gals: what's causing this and can you correct it?
Anyone else have any comment?

COMMENTING CHARGES
Per comment rate: $2
Payable by either clicking the BitCoin "tip me" button or the PayPal "donate" button in the sidebar.

WAIT, WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY TO COMMENT?
Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

I NEED TO BE HEARD! BUT I DONT WANT TO PAY.
Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
