Summer In The City 2007

Tags: ,

Talk about rainy days and mondays... I woke up to a leaky ceiling in the bedroom... wxman says it's going to continue to rain... so, I will look forward to something happening near the end of the week: Friday (June 8), NYCity Parks Foundation will host its annual fundraising benefit, Summer in the City. The evening treats guests to an outdoor musical performance at CPF's celebrated Central Park SummerStage outdoor arts venue, along with a private pre-show cocktail party featuring cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and raffle prizes. It's a splendid affair.

Summer in the City is a great way to enjoy summer while helping to support City Parks Foundation and its parks programs.

This year's show will feature the funk-inflected soul chanteuse Joss Stone, the fearless rapper Common, and the powerfully expressive Ryan Shaw. The cocktail party, held in a tent adjacent to SummerStage, will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. Central Park SummerStage is located at Rumsey Playfield (72nd Street, mid-park). See you there!

PS: Individual tickets are sold at $125, with package prices ranging from $1,000 to $25,000. Click here for more information. For any questions or to purchase tickets by phone, please contact Meredith Beitl at 212-360-8185.

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
