CBS, Without A Trace and non-Missing Kids

One thing that's always bugged me about "Missing Children" is those not really missing, taking up space and time best devoted to genuinely missing kids.

On CBS Morning News a case was highlighted, details of which appeared on "Without A Trace" (a little cross-promotion there) regarding a woman who took three young kids back to the Philippines.

The "loving Dad" was boo-hoo-hooing about how the wife had custody but wasn't allowed to take the boys out of the USA. ALARM BELL! Custody? Why did they split? Was he abusing her in some way, or cheating on her, or doing something else?

It was mentioned that the wife's parents had been "back and forth to the US several times to help her." ALARM BELL #2 - it takes mucho Pesos - thousands for two people to make just 2 or 3 trips back and forth, let alone "many." This would indicate the parents are well-to-do.

Dad told CBS he went to PI in search of his kids and "missed them by an hour" at a McDonald's.

I think these kids are alright. I've been to the Philippines and if they grow up there, I'm sure they'll probably grow into fine young men. Suck it up, dad, stop the crocodile tears and find yourself another woman, if you haven't already.

From the looks of Dad's crib, he's doing okay too. Money cannot buy happiness. Money can't get his kids back. Perhaps he should re-examine the chain of events that led up to his wife fleeing with his children. He obviously had plenty of cash to care for them. In the home videos of the boys playing in the pool and engaging in other activities, there is no sign of lack.

Dad: give it up and get a life!

WAIT, WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY TO COMMENT?
Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

I NEED TO BE HEARD! BUT I DONT WANT TO PAY.
Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
