Around The Blogosphere 21 August 07

Darn that Al Gore and Global Warming! Gotta admit, the weather sure is funny! NYC's high temperature for the day in Central Park was just 59 degrees. Mideast Youth has just launched a petition calling for the unblocking of WordPress in Turkey, and offers a support badge for your blog. See also: Turkey: wordpress.com ban inspires firestorm of criticism.

On MSNBC’s Tucker yesterday, host Tucker Carlson attempted to refute a recent New York Times op-ed, entitled “The War As We Saw It,” authored by members of the 82nd Airborne Division finishing up a 15 month deployment to Iraq.

Anastasia Goodstein (Ypulse) on the the AP/MTV poll: What I found to be more interesting is that 61 percent of young people said music makes them very happy (27 percent somewhat happy). That means 88 percent of young people cite music as their source of happiness. Yet the music industry has not yet figured out how to harness this love and continues to sue its biggest fans and generate bad PR. Most industries would kill for that much fan love (think about how many people say they don't trust the media...yet they continue to consume it).

Michelle Obama: 'One of the most important things that we need to know about the next President of the United States is, is he somebody that shares our values? Is he somebody that respects family? Is a good and decent person? So our view was that, if you can't run your own house, you certainly can't run the White House. As much as I am a Hillary fan, I kinda dig Obama... I continue to think the two would be unbeatable as candidates for President & Vice President, in ANY combination!

COMMENTING FEES
Per comment rate: $2
Payable by either clicking the BitCoin "tip me" button or the PayPal "donate" button in the sidebar.

WAIT, WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY TO COMMENT?
Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

I NEED TO BE HEARD! BUT I DONT WANT TO PAY.
Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
