Labor Day Blues

"Labor is life," declareth the postage stamp...

Bored this Labor Day weekend? Good news! If you've downloaded the latest version of Google Earth, the one that added in Google Sky, you now also have the flight simulator that's built in...

OMG! September already! Before you know it, Christmas and New Year's will be upon us. The next four months are core to American culture: Back to School, 9/11 rememberances, Fall Festivals, A new TV Season, Football, Halloween, Election Day, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas/Kwaanza. Americans pack a lot of living and family activities into these times.

According to statistics, September (in the days following Labor Day) through March is the busiest time for bloggers and citizen journalists... though you wouldn't know it from the amount of traffic in the Blogosphere:

Michelle Malkin notes that the Labor Day parade in New York has been cancelled, as well as The Center for Union Facts marking today by reminding Americans of union fatcats and the corruption of Big Labor. The state of the unions, Michelle blogs, is…not good: read Blowing the Whistle on Big Labor.

The Agonist offers a "weekend chat" about labor, writing "Where Labor is strong - Democrats tend to win" --- interesting article with a map and graph.

Mark Silva: "Well, this is it, the third and final holiday of summer, when many schools get ready to open, college football starts and most of us celebrate the misnamed Labor Day by not doing any." [link]

Eric Zorn muses on Labor Day in the Chicago Tribune.

Sunday's NY Times covers virtual book tours, the increasingly popular practice of book authors touring blogs instead of touring the non-virtual bookstores of the US and staying in non-virtual and expensive hotel rooms.

Blogger James D. Miller (Adventures In Economics) wonders "...if the Larry Craig scandal will end up hurting Hillary Clinton. There have been persistent rumors about Hillary Clinton being a lesbian. Ordinarily, the mainstream media wouldn't dare pursue such rumors, and anyone else who suggested that Hillary might be a lesbian would be accused of homophobia. But now that Senator Larry Craig has been mocked and forced out of office for being gay it will be harder for Democrats to argue that its unfair to investigate whether Hillary has ever engaged in lesbian behavior." Hmmm... if she has, she swings both ways... so what's the big deal? Miller's point is moot, at best! Just my two cents...

Two additional cents comes from writeoussisterspeaks in her post "Protect Our Children"--- "What with the latest news about Senator Larry Craig, we should realize that this type of behavior has become fairly common. With that in mind, I dug up some general links on protecting our children from sexual predators."

No Labor Day in Vienna. :-(
It was back to school instead, for Viennese children. The returning Viennese began flooding the inner city cafes over the weekend, much to the chagrin of folks like me who had enjoyed the deserted city to the fullest. ;-)

    Happy Labor Day from Vienna!

Hi Nice Blog .I think HR understands the importance of other people tracking time--IT, Lawyers, non-exempt employees, but struggles with the idea oflabor time tracker.
