Easter Greetings

In the misty tangled sky
Fast a wind is blowing,
In the new-born rabbit's heart
River life is flowing.

From the dark and wetted soil,
Petals are unfolding.
From the stony village kirk,
Easter bells of old ring.

So begins another spring,
Green leaves and of berries,
Chiff-chaff eggs are painted by
Mother bird eating cherries.
- Donovan circa 1967

Easter is a Christian commemoration of Resurrection Day. A Celebration with ancient pagan roots. Most children and families who color or hide Easter eggs as part of their Resurrection Sunday tradition have no knowledge of the origin of these traditions. The most memorable Easter Service I've ever attended was conducted by one Father Fragomeni at Vincentian Church in Albany before it's interior was gutted in an attempt to remodel the floor plan. The setting, the decorations, the flowers and banners, the then-frowned upon use of guitars and contemporary music, right down to the straw on the floor - not to mention Fragomeni's story of the ancient pagan origin of Easter and other intricacies of the ceremony, made it one to be remembered every Easter by anyone who was in attendance that day.
