The Mia Henderson Murder: Case Closed

From "Sweet" to "dead." "She was the sweetest girl you would ever meet..." Juan, a student at Pima Community College

UPDATE: Life without parole for woman who killed UA roommate

Do you remember "Princess" Mia Janelle Henderson, the sweet college co-ed murdered in her dorm (just 2 days after moving in) by the "roomate from hell"? It didn't take long for a Pima County Superior Court jury to convict Galareka Harrison of stabbing Mia 23 times with a knife that she had bought prior to the attack on Sept. 5, 2007. A doctor testified that 7 of the 23 stab wounds Mia received could have been fatal. There was one reprot that Harrison said she's hoping to find a "girlfriend" in prison and vowed to "raise hell" if she ever gets out. I haven't been able to retrieve that information since originally viewing it on the Net Saturday. For a blow-by-blow account of courtoom proceedings, we look no farther than AJ Flick.
Harrison faces life in prison and could be eligible for parole after 25 years, depending on the results of a hearing before her Nov. 25 sentencing.
Now here's the BAD news:
Prosecutors had decided not to seek the death penalty.
University of Arizona Galareka G. Harrison freshman allegedly admitted fraudulently cashing a $500 check from the bank account of the roommate she was accused of killing, according to information gleaned from a search warrant.

In May 2007, a glowing Mia Henderson had posed for a celebratory photo at her graduation from Tuba City High School, while hugging her grandfather, prominent tribal leader Johnny R. Thompson.

She had already been chosen as a student researcher through a National Institutes of Health program, worked with UA Professor Murray Brilliant, an expert in human genetic disease, and been named to an all-area softball team as a third baseman for the Tuba City Lady Warriors.

Last September I blogged that I was shocked to see that a murder had taken place on the U of A campus - even more shocked to find it was a girl on girl killing! I had stayed on the U of A campus for a time and it was the Utopia of College Campii!!

Harrison was a well-known "bitch troublemaker." The story goes she was upset that Mia had accused her of theft, so she a knife, returned to their dorm room and stabbed Mia as she slept.

But before Harrison killed Henderson, she forged a note in which the victim purportedly admitted falsely accusing her roommate and "mentioned ending her own life"- what a freakin' heartless little bitch!

Harrison (pictured on the right) is a member of the Navajo Nation, as was Henderson, a biology student from Tuba City, who had attended a summer science program at the university, held a prestigious tribal scholarship. Henderson died at University Medical Center after officials responding to a 5:45 a.m. 911 call found both women injured at Graham-Greenlee Hall on the UA campus.

Earlier, I found two newsvideo reports: on this page and on Fox News' website.

Mia Henderson, an honors student, says she chose UA “because it has nationally recognized science departments, well-funded labs, and outstanding student involvement opportunities.”

Galareka also had a personal profile at, as well as a Flixster account:

Some have suggested Mia Henderson was a lesbian. She described herself as a "swinger" on her MySPace page. Henderson may have referred to the conflict with Galareka Harrison in the blog attached to her “mighty_mia” profile:
