(Nearly) Free Christmas Gifts You Can Give

Health Insurance Hikes are Bitter Pill

WIRE: U.S. in Danger of Worst Recession Since World War II as Job Losses Deepen...

If the upside-down hit-and-run economy has dampened your Holiday Spirits, cheer up, dear readers! If you have a PC and a handful of blank CDs, you can make customized collections of videos for your closest friends and family members.

Thousands of music videos are available at hundreds of internet sites like AOL music, YouTUBE and MySpace. Got a friend who loves Beyonce? Collect a batch of B's vids (including Spanish-language versions) and burn them onto a CD which you can decorate yourself with Green and Red Sharpies for Christmas!

My post on Holiday Video and mp3 Gift Suggestions links back to complete instructions for what you need to burn VIDEOS even if your computer doesn't have a DVD drive! Everything you need in the way of software is easily found and downloaded. You need only invest your time and whatever the cost of a few blank CDs!

If the person you're gifting is a young tween or teen or doesn;t have a computer, run out to a Dollar General or Family Dollar or Closeout Shop and for anywhere from $9.99 to $29.99 you can pick up a VIDEO mp3 pocket player. I recommend the GPXML638B.

TIP: when uploading music to the GPXML638B The "AMV Converter" is the tool you will actually use to manage your player and upload videos and mp3's. The "Media Manager" is WORTHLESS!

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
