Somebody stop her! Rihanna is sending girls and women a mixed message: portraying herself in her music videos as a strong woman while taking a real-life beating at the hands of accused abuser and aspiring felon Chris Brown. Girls Are Not Chicks Coloring Book is a great way to celebrate International Women's Day and Women's History Month. Twenty seven pages of feminist fun for the little women in your life. This coloring book presents the reader/colorer with very real issues while using humor as a teaching tool. This is a coloring book you will never outgrow! Girls Are Not Chicks is a subversive and playful way to examine how pervasive gender stereotypes are in every aspect of our lives. This book helps to deconstruct the homogeneity of gender expression in children's media by showing diverse pictures that reinforce positive gender roles for girls. Color the Rapunzel for a new society... she now has some power tools, a roll of duct tape, a Tina Turner album, and a bus pass!

When a girl's voice is fostered to its brimming potential, the sound is not a peep, nothing akin to the sound of a fuzzy baby chick. The encouraged voice of a girl is resounding and loud, glowing with perfect protest and intellect.

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
