Around The Blogosphere 2 April 09

Laura Ling and Euna Lee, the two journalists who were reportedly working for former Vice President Al Gore’s San Francisco-based Current TV media venture are currently facing ten years in prison in North Korea. So why doesn't Current, you know, report something about it? Gawker: It'd be great if someone would call them out on censoring their own story.

ZHANG: As Detroit automakers battle to survive, their vintage cars in Cuba may outlive them. Lacking access to original car parts Cubans make their own parts or take them from other cars. They'll last forever... ... or not...

Uncommon Sense turns the spotlight on Havana-based blogger Yoani Sanchez, whom the Cuban authorities have reportedly called a “professional dissident”.

Yoani recently posted about cars. I've always loved old cars and I'm fascinated by Cuban cars. There are about 60,000 vintage American cars running around the island, mostly in Havana and Santiago de Cuba. The majority of these cars have been drastically altered from their original selves to run on diesel. They have been rewired and repainted. Maybe this is what will happen here in the USA. We just let the "Big 3" collapse, turn up our noses at Toyota and Honda, and give up on cheap-to-buy expensive-to-maintain/repair Korean Kars. Those cool Cuban Cars are treasured by their owners... “Last weekend, yet another Barbadian woman lost her life to domestic violence”: Cheese-on-bread! wants to know “how many more women are going to die before the authorities and all of us take this issue of domestic violence seriously.” Which reminds me... howz Rihanna doin'? She's acting like every other abused woman.
