Albany, Schenectady, troy, and probably every other major North American city once had places where people could buy wonderful, marvelous, tasty donuts! The great donut shops of old (I used to LOVE Brooks' on Northern Boulevard) are no more. Dunkin' Donuts lost the wonderful flavor they once had (those transfats were good for something!) and unless you're near a Krispy Kreme, you're SOL.
Even grocery store donuts taste like rubber these days. But wait a minute... what was that strange box I chanced upon at the Price Chopper? OMG! I can hardly believe it... it's... REAL old-fashioned Freihofer donuts! Definitely NOT the rubbery "softee" variety.
I sped thru the checkout, hopped into the car and tore off into the sunrise... brewing coffee at home, and then, the moment... YES! YES! YES! They tasted like old-school Freihofer Donuts! They ARE old-school Freihofer Donuts! But grab 'em as soon as you see 'em... the clerk tells me they disappear from the shelves rather quickly! I rate 'em #1!
