Gossip Girl, You Know We Love You

Watching last night's Gossip Girl, cross-pollinated as it was with the new (Doomed?) spinoff show, was like having your favorite song come on the radio on a long, lonely country drive only to have the station keep sputtering out of range, replacing it intermittently with Billy Ray Cyrus. It was like having someone pour white wine into the delicious glass of red you were drinking before you are too drunk to notice. It was, to make an eighties reference, like having your morning OJ spiked with Drano. - New York Magazine

I was not impressed with the spin-off series being "launched" in the second to last ep of the season. I did enjoy the 80s music, and if you're old enough to remember you might have thought "damn, those old songs sounded good." Well, yeah, but not really. What you heard were the versions of those tunes "enhanced for radio airplay," something a Hot97 deejay explained to me some years ago. I was in the studio while a particular track was playing and remarked to her that I had bought that particular CD but was disappointed in the sooound quality, particularly the stereo seperation. She grabbed the CD when it had played and showed me the abovementioned inscription. Such CDs can be found at flea markets and trade shows.

As for what happens next on Gossip Girl, New York Mag says it best: "We only have one episode left to get us through the summer! (Fortunately, judging from the preview, it looks to be a doozy.")

Meantime, back in the REAL world, Donald Trump has spoken; Carrie Prejean gets to keep her crown. Aside to Firecracker: this is one of the best posts I've seen on this issue!
