Curley cozies up next to the case for the DVD "Control."If you're a fan of punk rock (Ramones, early Blondie*, Television) or early social "grunge" (The Fugs, Sex Pistols) - you need to check out "Control" - all about the lead singer of Joy Division. This lad, by the time he was dead at age 23, did more living and loving than most folks will do by the time they are 80. Let's see, one "bad boy" I can think of who did a lotta living before he died is David Carradine. Certainly Hugh Hefner could have passed on decades ago having lived more of life larger than you or I. But how do you measure life anyway? "Control" comes across personal yet COLD in noir Black-and-White. Lots of little extras on the disc, like music videos, stills and the usual "behind the scenes" stuff. Definitely different, this picture might leave you down, so you might have a perkier DVD on the coffee table to pop in after, just in case (or perhaps music videos of happier tunes!) I have people coming over in about 15 minutes to watch...it'll be fun to see how they react to sam Riley'sportrayal of Ian Curtis!
*There's a German DVD of Blondie on Musikladen which showcases the band just before they jumped out of punk. Gotta hand it to 'em: they made their way from punk to rock to psychedelic-glam to disco to rap and back to rock - no small feat for any group!
