There are many "services" that promise to get you hundreds (if not thousands) of "followers" on twitter. Reminds me of those old "services" that guaranteed they'd get uberhits to your blog. Stay away from these charlatans!(A) Do you really want zillions of "followers" that don't really give a crap about following you and will eventually delist you?
(B) I know someone who picked up over 400 followers in a week, but a week later nearly 380 of those 400 accounts were closed, twitter displaying the "move along, there's nothing for you here" message!
The REAL way to get followers:
1 - ASK! I'm asking YOU right now to login to your twitter account (if you have not already done so) and FOLLOW ME! If I see a blog or MySpace on your twitter site I'm 50 times more likely to follow YOU back, which means other interesting tweeters already following me will now be able to consider following YOU as well!
2 - Splash your twitter URL around! USE IT when you comment on blogs, when you participate in forums and especially when you leave comments on tagboards, like C-Box!
3 - Add your twitter URL to the signature line in your email account: you'll be surprised how many followers you'll pick up in a short time!
4 - Engage new followers! When you acquire a new fan, acknowledge them with a personal message, a quick thank-you and maybe links to your MySpace or Facebook or LinkedIn or even your blog!
