Judge Sotomayor likely had no idea her words would come back to haunt her, and again I am recalling words of wisdom contained within the 48 Rules addressing this kind of event. Personally, I believe that when people make remarks that are perceived in a negative light by others, they should be allowed to explain, defend and apologize when necessary. Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee are using Sotomayor's confirmation hearing to raise doubts about her fairness, while Democrats are portraying the 55-year-old New Yorker as a model jurist. (*Link)The judge's past remarks should be excused and she should be allowed to go forward. Aren't Americans more forgiving today than they were in the days of Robert Bork?
