Schnitzel

Another sign that Albany, NY is drifting away from its traditions and values: "The Jewish World" Vol. 44, No. 46 (August 20th) carries a letter from a gentleman named Barry Uznitsky, who states he is "incredulous that Mayor Jennings and the BID would behave so callously towards the huge Jewish population in Albany, and would hope that the Jewish community contacts the mayor and the BID to let them know of our disappointmment in choosing Rosh Hashanah to hold their (Larkfest) festival." Barry then sticks it in a little farther: "But at least the BID leaders don'thave to pay for parking tickets." Touche!

For those out of the loop, Rosh H is a "High Holy Day." The Jewish World, after receiving Mr. Uznitsky's letter, reqached out to Michael Weidrich, Lark Street Business Improvement District (BID) executive director, who threw a little stale bagel of his own, saying that "Uznitsky's statements are a complete lie, completely inaccurate." He explained Larkfest, for the past 28 years, has been held on the third Saturday in September, and that the City has events scheduled on the 2nd and 4th weekends of the month.

So, guys, what's wrong with the first weekend of the month?

PS: Anybody remember May Day? It used to be a pretty big day in Albany... about a half century ago!
