A MultiMedia Moment

Have you been keeping up with MERLIN? The popular British TV series is in its second season, and Saturday night I believe we're up to episode 4??? Anyway, I just realized as I was sitting here, downloading one of the earlier episodes I'd missed while at the same time twittering while listening to "Witches Hat" on my Fly Ying iPhone::: "Crikees! I'm havin' a bloomin' multi-media moment while multi-tasking!"

There's just so much information flowing these days its hard to catch up and fly straight/ For all you Merlin lovers, did you know that EVEN IF YOUR PC DOESN'T HAVE A DVD PLAYER OR DVD CAPABILITY you can download and watch Merlin every week?

Here's how: You Google "Merlin October 3 Season 2 .avi" and you'll find several websites that offer the episode for download. Play around a bit, as some of the URLs make you jump thru hoops to get your download, while others are easy as pie! So, once you've found the ep you're looking for, and you've got it on your computer, what then? Google "VLC Media Player" and download this little amazing piece of software. It can play just about anything! And if you happen to download a corrupted file or you lose a packet of data, VLC will actually FIX the file and allow you to view it! It does amazing things that Windows Media Player and Real Player can't even attempt to do! It's like the "boy scout knife" for video files.

Here's the good part! The screen grab from Merlin you see on this post was taken with my little Kyocera Wild Card cellphone. The actual display is as sharp and clear as HDTV and actually looks better than it does via CRT television! I'm using a rather old computer with the Windows ME operating system (the PC is "unfit" for Windows 2000 and XP!) It has no DVD capabilities, just CD!

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
