Quite the day, Wednesday was, eh Northeastern USA readers? According to the National Weather Service: "..WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM THURSDAY TO 7 AM EST FRIDAY... FOR THE EASTERN CATSKILLS AND SCHOHARIE VALLEY... A WINTER STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM THURSDAY TO 7 AM FRIDAY. A TOTAL 12 TO 30 INCHES OF HEAVY WET SNOW FELL ACROSS THE WARNING AREA WITH THE HIGHEST ACCUMULATIONS AT ELEVATIONS ABOVE 1500 FEET. THE WEIGHT OF THE SNOW HAS LED TO DOWNED LIMBS...TREES AND POWER LINES...RESULTING IN POWER OUTAGES. IN ADDITION...THE WEIGHT OF THE HEAVY WET SNOW ON ROOFS AND BUILDINGS MAY RESULT IN THE COLLAPSE OF SOME STRUCTURES. ANOTHER STORM WILL IMPACT THE AREA LATE TONIGHT...THROUGH THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY MORNING. A PERIOD OF HEAVY SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED ON THURSDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT...AS A STORM CENTER INTENSIFIES NEAR NEW YORK CITY. STORM TOTALS 10 TO 20 INCHES ARE EXPECTED WITH THIS STORM. ONCE AGAIN THE HEAVY WET SNOW WILL CAUSE DOWNED TREE LIMBS... TREES AND POWER LINES. ALSO...WINDS WITH THIS SECOND STORM WILL BE STRONGER WITH GUSTS OVER 30 MPH...WHICH WILL LIKELY ADD TO THE POWER OUTAGES." Y'readin' this, Al Gore?

If you scroll down the blog a bit you'll see my two "snow-posts" featuring fotos taken in the vicinity of the State Capitol Building looking toward Albany City Hall at 2pm Tuesday and then from my front window in the wee hours of Wednesday. All of the area schools were out, and this is the first real dose of the white stuff we've seen during Winter 09-10! Just think, perhaps in a month from now, and most certainly in two, we'll be outdoors in light jackets or maybe even shorts! That's the great part about living here in New York and New England: the variety of weather! Never a dull moment!

Alas, it seems our local TV weatherman aren't in alignment when it comes to the next snowfall's arrival time and how much will be dropped, so we'll just play it by ear!

WAIT, WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY TO COMMENT?
Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

I NEED TO BE HEARD! BUT I DONT WANT TO PAY.
Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
