TV Star Found Dead, Face-Down in Gutter

Police have no leads.

This post was to have been published on April Fool's Day, but the joke is on me, because although it was scheduled about 12 hours in advance, it never posted. One of those inexplicable glitches, I guess!

Speaking of glitches, I cleaned some stuff out of the blog sidebar today, hoping to improve loading time. I had to finally kick e-referrer out, as it kept showing x-rated links supposedly responsible for sending incoming links to my blog. When I checked those links I could find nothing in the way of any reference to this humble weblog.

I've got another glitch: a sometimes-buggy keyboard. I don't use blogger's spell-check because it screws up my post formatting, and although I proof-read to some degree, I recently noticed many more errors (than usual) that needed correcting. My friend Saki Tumi noticed that when I was typing the word "broadly" I typed it correctly, but the display showed "boardly" - so we commenced experimenting and Saki shot an impromptu bit of video with her iPhone, PROVING to me, the doubting thomas, that yes I was typing words correctly, but whatever artifical intelligence that delivers the signal to the screen gets words scrambled WHEN I TYPE TOO FAST (and we're still trying to determine the speed at which words begin to get jumbled)!

I learned a lot of neat stuff today while online - simply by using a few readily available tools and apps - and a bit of imagination! One important tip for you fellow-bloggers to remember: sites like do NOT hide anything! I won't post the details, but I was able to read IP addresses and account information on sites that came-a-visitin' via, right down to the city, country and ISP! One of my site metering tools (and I won't share which one) is able to display that info (now I'm wondering if THAT is some wonderful glitch, because it's never happened before) and I even tested it myself by using Anoymouse to view my own blog and don't you know ALL of my "details" showed up!

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
