Around The Blogosphere 12 May 2010

Toxic Dropper on EntreCard? I have not encountered this myself: perhaps it's not happening on U.S. sites? Anyone?

Seek No More Blog has extended an invite to all interested individuals (bloggers, writers, students, etc.) to join an online contest and get a chance to be one of the three winners of Limited Edition Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak trading cards plus thousands of Entrecard credits (ECs).

It will be an opportunity to help raise awareness for Kiva and at the same time earn an opportunity to own instant collectibles.

BTW I'm running a little contest involving EC's too! Onto other stuff:

Wondering who's Facebooking? On Facebakers.com you can find daily updated Facebook Statistics from different Facebook countries. If you click on a country, you will be able to see Facebook statistics together with demography and a graph in time.

Angela Stefano ::: Seton Hill mentions students using their iPad to download their textbooks and take notes in class. Can you imagine if all professors utilized the e-book option, and if all students used the iPad for class notes? No backpacks, no notebooks, no wildly expensive textbooks – just one, simple device you can slip in your purse or gym bag or whatever and go.

Angela also makes the case for single-sex schools! Good Job!

Gawker reports that the State of Arizona is moving to ban "ethnic studies" in schools AND Over-The-Counter Genetic Test Coming to Walgreens!

Big Momma Michelle Obama: Food profiteer-turned-food cop - Michelle Malkin's syndicated column today takes on what MM calls "the First Lady’s hypocritical war" on junk food.

  2. I got infected with XP AntiMalware 2010 a week or so ago and had to reformat my hard drive, but now I switched to Linux and I can laugh at them.

COMMENTING FEES
Per comment rate: $2
Payable by either clicking the BitCoin "tip me" button or the PayPal "donate" button in the sidebar.

WAIT, WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY TO COMMENT?
Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

I NEED TO BE HEARD! BUT I DONT WANT TO PAY.
Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
