Blogging Alexa

I "knocked one out of the park" without even trying!

Last week, I uploaded "10 Ways To Become A Famous Blogger" and Dragonblogger was first to spread the word, via twitter. (Thanks!) His tweets were picked up by a few key bloggers and voila! The hits came fast and furious: quicker than the counter could register. Best part of all, the people who clicked in actually READ the article, according to my sitemeters. Some commented. I was pleased! One commenter typed "And I'm taking advice from the *140,000th* most popular site on the internet, why?" WHY INDEED! (I'm actually around 136K)...

The GOOD news, IMHO, as I pointed out in my reply to the commenter, is that there are MILLIONS of blogs BELOW me! I googled up a 2007 article about increasing Alexa rank. I'm not sure how much of the information is still applicable today. The article mentions one SUREFIRE WAY to kick your blog up a notch: "Hire forum posters to pimp your website. Either buy signatures in webmaster forums or promote specific articles or material in your website on a regular basis. You can easily find posters for hire in Digital Point and other webmaster forums." During the same Google session I noticed many articles advising "You can increase your rank by adding an Alexa Traffic Rank Badge to your blog or website."

  1. Leaving trails on dofollow blogs also helps boost your Alexa rank, glad the promo helped increase visibility to your article and site as a whole.

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
