Pop Clips » 06 July 10

Let's have a look at The Top 3 World News Items of today - (1) involves the US Space Agency ::: "NASA ... represents the best of America. Its purpose is not to inspire Muslims or any other cultural entity." ~ Michael Griffin said regarding the following article published by the SF Examiner: NASA's new mission: Building ties to Muslim world‎ - the announcement is getting a lot of flack from the Conservative blogosphere, led by Michelle Malkin, here and here.

Blogger Russ Wellen asks (off-topic) ::: How Would President Obama Respond to a Nuclear Attack?

(2) Via the New York Times (artsbeat blog) ::: Lindsay Lohan Is Sentenced to 90 Days in Jail? Yup! If ya do the crime, be prepared to do the time! LL is said to be "freaking out." I guess she never thought it could happen to her.

(3) Yolanthe Cabau was the girlfriend -- and is now the wife -- of Wesley Sneijder, the Dutch World Cup star who has scored five goals in the current tournament, tying him for the lead with Spanish striker David Villa. Sneijder allegedly stole Dutch arch-WAG Yolanthe Cabau van Kasbergen, off pop star Jan Smit!

And it seems the LeBron/twitter story goes on , but who really cares about that and why on earth is it such a big deal? And #4 would be the HEAT - the big "heat wave" sweeping across the Northeastern U.S. with some cities racking up Farenheits in the three-digits. I like heat!

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
