Around The Blogosphere 01 August 10

In a guest post by Richard Chidike, Weblogbetter.com offers some very important tips about using Twitter ::: make sure that your profile contains very useful tips about your business. You are even advised to make use of your targeted keywords in describing your business in your profile page --- and although that advice is geared more toward "business" you can still adapt it to bring it to a "personal" level.

Speaking of twitter, I just lost another bunch of "followers" whom I didn't particularly care if they followed me or not. But there was one casualty I do care about: Georyl! The problem I have is that there's a "sweeper" program I use that boots out twitter accounts which haven't been updated in X number of days and Georyl fell into that category! I'll have to add her to the special list of "fly-by" accounts that the sweeper will ignore!

Dragonblogger says "Your blog is a big deal," and he's dead-on right!

No doubt about it, your blog + twitter + facebook (and/or LinkedIn) summarizes, solidifies and personifies YOU online! Via the awesome Larry Brauner ::: 6 Easy Ways to Integrate Search and Social on Your Blogs...

Despite what you may have read elsewhere, 95% of all bloggers are honest people. And then there's that 5%...

Are you concerned about Scrapers lifting content from your blog or website? If so read this article on how to deal with it (be sure to check out the comments for MY take on "blogscraping"!)

Some blogs like Blazing Minds use "copyscape" - I wonder, maybe Karen will leave a comment here on just how successful that is for her blog - I'm sure there are more programs and shortcuts that can be used to protect one's copy... anybody have any others or other suggestions? Your comments are always welcome!

  1. Followed you again Dave. Also used a program that unfollows non-followers. I should have backed-up my list before clicking "GO".

    Thanks for the mention.

  2. Thanks for the mention, what is that snapshots popup when hovering over the links that reads in the whole link site into an Ajax popup, I haven't seen that before.

  4. Hi there Dave, thanks for the mention, so far, touch wood ;) "copyscape" has been working quite well and there has only been one instance of a Scraper, so I do hope the "copyscape" option is working as it should ;)

COMMENTING CHARGES
Per comment rate: $2
Payable by either clicking the BitCoin "tip me" button or the PayPal "donate" button in the sidebar.

WAIT, WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY TO COMMENT?
Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

I NEED TO BE HEARD! BUT I DONT WANT TO PAY.
Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
