Around The Blogosphere (and twittersphere!) 12 August 2010

If you're in the USA and love twitter you can now "fast follow" from your mobile!

By the way, have you tried "Tweet to Email"???

WNYC's Azi Paybarah has posted a story on Charlie Rangel's birthday party complete with youtube video of him dancing!!!

Wednesday morning at DFW Airport, George and Laura Bush greeted 150 (very surprised) troops as they arrived home from Iraq and Afghanistan!

Kikolani writes "The latest incarnation of popup opt-in forms seem to have hit websites by storm. This plugin creates visually appealing lightbox forms that increase your opt-in rate substantially.' HAH? I think these things are a nuisance, they screw up page loading via dialup (and on some mobile phones) and give a visitor an extra reason to leave your page in a hurry and never come back (most people figure if there's one pop-up on your page, there's more ) - ALSO::: some services prohibit pop-ups, consider them TOS which is reason for TOSSING YOU AND YOUR BLOG OUT of whatever program it is - so check adsense, entrecard, etc. to make absolutely sure you're not gonna get banned or deleted!

What's in your PC? It's compatible with all modern versions of Windows through Windows XP: Startup Control Panel is a nifty control panel applet that allows you to easily configure which programs run when your computer starts. (More PC tips)

Traffic watchers! Check this video out -- Does PageRank take into account cross-browser compatibility?

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
