Illusions

Albany has traveled far since the time former Attorney General Eliot Spitzer rode a landslide to victory and was inaugurated annointed Governor of New York State. I recall watching the ceremony on TV and cringing while witnessing reporters, fellow-journalists, fawning over the new Governor like eager hungry little puppy dogs.

Who could have ever imagined that Spitzer would have resigned in disgrace! And then there was his successor, David Paterson, hailed as a serendipitous saviour (and we all know how that turned out!)

Now, we have another shoo-in (remember how everybody, even me, thought Hillary Clinton was a "shoo-in" for President?) in the persona of Andrew Cuomo. Until today it was a given that he would be the next Governor of New York. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, comes Carl Paladino. One journalist remarked: "I've never seen a race tighten so quickly." What next?

In the words of CBS2: "The race for governor of New York just got a whole lot more interesting."
Conspiracy theories, anyone?
