Every day last week, between 7:30 and 8am, there was a car accident on the Troy-Menands Bridge. Each smash-up was in nearly the same spot: traffic heading toward Troy, one or more cars rear-ends another. It creates a huge delay for motorists. It's a nuisance and an incovenience.
On Friday, after enduring delays and jams caused by the 5th such accident in as many days, I phoned the Troy Police Department to ask if there was any interest or concern on their part, and whether they intended to take any action or conduct preventive patrols or simply do anything at all to prevent the same thing from happening this week.
So far, the motorists involved in the crashes have been lucky. No one has been seriously hurt or killed.
No one from the Troy Police Department took the time to call me back. So, if you have to take the Troy-Menands Bridge for any reason, stay on high alert and be careful. The police will show up after you've crashed or have been crashed into. They might write you a ticket if a brake light is out or a windshield wiper is in poor condition.
