Saturday Mystery ::: What really happened at Falcon Lake?

The Mexican government said Friday it has opened a federal investigation into the reported shooting of an American tourist on a border lake.

An eyewitness corroborated part of Tiffany Hartley's story about a Mexican 'pirate' attack that killed her husband, David Hartley, on Falcon Lake last week. Like Michelle, I've been watching this story unfurl out of the corner of my eye. Michelle writes "Longtime readers know that southern border violence has been one of my primary topics for as long as I’ve been working in daily journalism and writing books." To which I'll add, longtime readers of MY weblog know that murder mysteries are one of the pillars which helped build this humble blog.

As soon as anyone's story accounting of a particular situation begins to change or evolve, that's a milemarker that the truth is not being told, that some facts, some details of the event are being withheld, for whatever reason.

The only conclusion I have come to is that something is being covered up -OR- Tiffany Hartley is suffering from shock-induced memory loss.

Michelle Malkin has a poll up on her blog this morning... read the article and follow the links to educate yourself about the details surrounding this story (you are probably somehwat familiar with it by now) and then go ahead and take the poll.

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
