Blog Slow To Load

I recently heard from an old blogging buddy who had not stopped by this humble weblog in several months. But one day he (in his words) "made it through." It seems he had problems getting this thing to load in his browser!

I often encounter problems with certain blogs on the entrecard network. Some of them are really great blogs by sincere bloggers, but they come brimming with graphics and outside links that sometimes FREEZE everything up! Once in awhile I just have to hit the computer's "off" switch and go through a system re-load/de-frag to get the old PC back in action.

If you are a Firefox user, and you come across a Blogger / Blog*spot blog only to find that surfing the site or scrolling the pages is frustratingly slow, try this little trick from The Older Geek

To test the load time of your blog, use Stopwatch. Enter your blog's URL and click "Start Stopwatch." Your blog page will load in a frame with a counter at the top tracking the time it takes for all the content on the page to load. The time includes any time needed to download audio and video files displayed on your blog.

  1. DUDE! Thanks for the mention! I am very gratified that my tip helps you and any other bloggers out there. I have DSL and sometimes Blogger blogs load slowly-- it's got to be agonizingly painful for folks who still use dialup!

    Have a terrific week!

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
