Android Virus ANDROIDOS_NICKISPY.C Google++

Virus Slayers report that there's a piece of Android malware out loose on the net, pretending to be a Google+ app ::: ANDROIDOS_NICKISPY.C is a real terror - it will automatically answer and record phone calls, intercept and copy instant messages, GPS, location, call logs,etc. To capture data, the app loads at boot-up and runs services that can monitor messages, phone calls, and user location, enabling it to steal e-mail and other content.

Use caution while downloading Android apps from the Web!

Trend Micro reports that the malicious app installs itself under the name Google++. "Like other ANDROIDOS_NICKISPY variants, ANDROIDOS_NICKISPY.C also has the capability to record phone calls made from infected devices. What makes this particular variant different is that it has the capability to automatically answer incoming calls."

This tells me one distinct important thing: AVOID ANDROID (or be on 'alert' the rest of your smartphone's life!)

Symantec has released Norton Mobile Security Lite, a free Android app that automatically scans downloaded apps and app updates for potential threats, detects and blocks phishing websites or other compromised sites, and "eliminates mobile threats before they can infect your phone," according to its description in the Android app market. Norton Mobile Security Lite is currently available for download in the Android Market.

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
