Blessings of Animals Service-Sunday August 14, 10 am Saratoga Springs UU Church

Sunday, August 14 at 10am, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Saratoga Springs will host its annual intergenerational Blessings of Animals service.

Linda Wilkes and Nedra Stimpfle will lead participants in a service dedicated to the blessings animals bring to our lives.

Guest speakers Jill Sweet and Cynthia Klopfer will present the sermon in two parts. Jill Sweet will speak to how animals assist humans, specifically assistance dogs. Cynthia Klopfer will discuss her work with the Italian Greyhound Rescue Club.

Never forget that there is evil in this world, some directed at God's creatures.

Hymns will include All God’s Critters by Bill Staines and songs will include Old Dogs by Bill Staines and I Wanna Be a Dog/Cat by Barry Louis Pollisar.
Time will be given for a pet remembrance ceremony for past pets.

We will have guests and information after the service on opportunities for you to help animals in our area. Specifically we will have a guest from the Friends of Saratoga County Shelter, who will be accepting your donations of pet food, blankets, towels, paper towels and laundry detergent.

Half of the offering plate will be given to the Friends of Saratoga County Shelter and the Italian Greyhound Rescue Club.

So animals, please remind your owners to bring you to church this Sunday, at 10am. Treats will be available, oh and lemonade for your human friends.

Woof, meow, chirp, whinny, hiss, and hoot!

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
