maXimize your online presence with Google+

September is coming up rather quickly, and we'll soon be kicking off the "fall blogging season" - a time when more of us in Northern climates spend extra time on the computer as the sun begins setting earlier and earlier each day. By the time December rolls around, it begins getting dark in Albany/NYC as early as 3:45pm for a few weeks!

Now is the time to plan out your autumn online activities: I keep post-it notes near my workdesk. I also have a "daily checklist" of "must-stops" along the infobahn (anybody remember that term? It's easy to miss small things, and in my experience I have found that small things are often the building blocks toward bigger things, as in "better" things for me and my blog and online activity.

Mon ami Olivier Schmidt-Chevalier advise all netizens "It's time to include Google+ in your social media strategy." I must admit being a little behind in thoroughly immersing myself in Google+ ::: but then again, it took me several years before I got up to speed with twitter and facebook! And in case you missed it, I put my BLOGGING CLASS on WordPress and I keep a tumblr blog as well.
Are you familiar with GOOGLE AUTHORSHIP MARKUP? If you READ THIS YOU WILL BE! (A "project" for those longer evenings behind the keyboard!)
Larry Brauner discusses the Guy Fawkes Day Facebook threat (check out OPERATION FACEBOOK here).

EXTRA ::: I'm beginning to get more interactive with Google's CALENDAR feature, ever since I discovered it could be used OFFLINE! You'll want to try it out too! It's an excellent supplement if you use a desk planner (I swear by - not at -the "At A Glance" weekly/monthly planner. It may be a little tedious to handwrite out stuff, but when you don't have net access for whatever reason, you can jump into your hardcopy planner and continue to work, write, brainstorm, etc.) Internet marketer Sue Tamani has published an introduction to Google CALENDAR.

Another hallmark of the onset of Fall is the sudden surge of new virus and trojan threats: keep watch! There are a lot of you with ANDROID smartphones: YOU are particularly vulnerable to attack!

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
