#Occupy WHY?

Don't "get" #Occupy?

START HERE!

On October 15th, Occupy Wall Street will demonstrate in concert over
951 cities in 82 countries and counting as people around the globe
protest in an international day of solidarity against the greed and
corruption of the 1%.

Occupy Wall Street is a people powered movement that began on
September 17, 2011 in Liberty Square in Manhattan’s Financial
District, and has spread to over 100 cities in the United States and
actions in over 1,500 cities globally. #OWS is fighting back against
the corrosive power of major banks and multinational corporations on
the democratic process, and the role of Wall Street in creating an
economic collapse and caused the greatest recession in generations.
The movement is inspired by uprisings in Egypt, Tunisia, Spain,
Greece, Italy and the UK, and aims to expose the widening gap between
the richest 1% of of people who are writing the rules of the global
economy and imposing an agenda of neoliberalism and economic
inequality.

  1. Thank god someone had the balls to start this movement. Since the economic meltdown, I've wondered "where's the outrage?" We should be all be mad at hell. It really, really ticks me off when politicians like Herman Cain call these people slackers that just want a handout. And I'm baffled when "average Joe's" don't get that these people are fighting for us, that they TOO have been robbed by Wall Street greed and corruption.

WAIT, WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY TO COMMENT?
Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

I NEED TO BE HEARD! BUT I DONT WANT TO PAY.
Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
