“The Hunger Games” took box-office’s across North America by storm over the weekend, raking in a record $155 million ($214 million globally) and establishing what looks to be one of the biggest film franchises of this decade.
You knew the time was ripe when the last Harry Potter film was released. “The Hunger Games” is the new cross-audience appealing movie. There is nothing else like it, except maybe for an Avatar sequel. (The Twlight series has a more targeted, mostly female audience).
Three more films, based on the remaining two books in Ms. Collins’s “Hunger Games” trilogy, are planned. More than 24 million copies of the trilogy are in print in the United States alone, according to Scholastic, the books’ publisher.
