Kuwaiti artist Shurooq Amin is reportedly "in shock" after her exhibition of paintings was shut down without an explanation. Reports say that men walked into the show, three hours after its opening, and took the paintings down, saying they had received a complaint over the content of the paintings.
From her website: "Shurooq's latest series "It's a Man's World" was exhibited on the 5th of March 2012 at Al M Gallery and was supposed to run for 3 weeks but was shut down by the local Kuwait authorities after 3 hours on the premise that the artworks were "pornographic." The paintings are not pornographic. This unprecedented incident in the history of Kuwait and impingement on art & freedom of expression took place with no legal warrant from the authorities."
