Pages (and more) are coming...

You may have noticed that "Popular Posts by RSS" and the other PostRank widget have been vanquished from the sidebars on this humble weblog.

On Friday I noticed both bars were gone: RSS was replaced with a message - something about "cannot find server, please check URL" and the other PR widget displayed a little spinning circle we usually usually recognize as "buffering".

These situations are as a result of Google (which owns PostRank, in case ya didn't know) changing the way it gives PageRank love to blogs and websites. Since Google/Blogspot's "Popular Posts" widget is almost the same, I decided it presented a much better showcase than lists of ranking posts. So they are gone. At least for now. And maybe forever.

That brings us to this:

PAGES is a feature that has been missing from Blogger/Blog*spot since the platform's debut - it is now offered as part of the blogging package - as you can see, I invented my own workaround about 5 years ago - the additional "pages" will be devoted to special topics and features, beginning with "The Hunger Games."

Obviously, I am aiming for a "niche" audience - and have chosen to go this route rather than creating a whole new blog.

As with all experiments on this blog, the added feature could be deleted at any time. Join me in a little adventure - we'll see what happens and I will chronicle the results on this blog.

AS ALWAYS - YOUR thoughts / comments / reactions / suggestions are welcome!

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
