- A brand name of dinnerware molded from melamine resin, made by American Cyanamid, most popular in the 1940's and 1950's.
- A blogspot blog authored by Ira Mency.
Ira collects vintage plastic dinnerware (melamine dinnerware, more commonly called Melmac) and keeps a whole blog about it!
Melmac Central is a blog where you can "come sit for a spell" - there are fantastic collections of information and photographs you won't find anywhere else!
My main love is Russel Wright melamine. I created this blog while my mom was going though chemotherapy, as a past time to get my mind off of her illness. Some of the happiest times with my mom were spent in the kitchen with our old plastic Texasware Mixing bowls making cookies when I was little. Every time I post I still think of her, and miss her but I know how happy she would be that someone else out there enjoys those old dishes too. Please grab my button and link this site to your site! ~ Ira Mency
Whether you are a collector, or just interested in old fascinating things, Melmac Central / Retro Chalet will keep you busy for hours! The blog is social-media friendly and ready to interact with you! (There's even an etsy shop on-site!)
Ira's goal is a noble one: for people to collect and learn about the old and not have to buy the new and mass produced. Without the exception of a few streamlined plastic sites, this information is not readily out there and it's frustrating when looking up information---the books on the market are so old and outdated.
http://RetroChalet.blogspot.com is called Melmac Central
