If I were Zuckerberg, the one thing I would do for facebook IMMEDIATELY... buy up "nearby" web destinations, like (DO NOT go there!) and some of the other quadruple-X sites that have taken names of typing errors people and children typically make when at the keyboard. I heard that one of these sites even did a scientific study in order to determine which mis-type was most likely to happen! Mark Z should buy up those sites AT ANY COST. Google has been buying up similar "near miss" destinations for years. Type googel and you'll go to the big search engine. A few years ago you would have ended up in an embarassing place.

Even if Zuckerberg follows my advice (like that's gonna happen!), I believe facebook stock is full of air, just like those dot-com stocks that left investors penniless! A good friend of mine, who happens to be a doctor, was dabbling in the market back then, and ended up losing his life savings! Don't fool yourself. Look at facebook for what it truly is: nothing. A space in digital air. People flocked to it because it was simple and easy. Yes, there are x number of people "signed up" - but how many are active? Remember what happened to MySpace! No one saw THAT collapse coming!

No one listened earlier than that, when I said Time Warner merging with AOL would end up a disaster. No one is listening now, as I warn you that facebook will be the biggest financial bubble that ever popped, and if thought the "dot com" debacle of the 90s was a big mess, you ain't seen nuttin' yet!

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
