Meet The Fracking Fairy

It's been a long time since I've run across the kind of person long ago described by an elderly neighbor as one of "the sugar people" - these are individuals, male or female, blessed with certain qualities who are most often summed up as "charismatic" - they are very endearing and pleasant to be around. It was startling in a way to meet someone of this order.

Last time - it was years ago - it was a young kid - he couldn't have been more than 11 or 12, who was going door-to-door (yeah - when it was safe to do so - LONG time past!) selling magazines to raise money for the boy scouts - he worked his charm on my mom, who ended up buying several. He was a likeable person. There was a noticeable drop in - uh, let's call it "contentedness" - once he left the house.

Our Fracking Fairy posesses that same type of endearing style, which I think bleeds thru the technology, although I must admit my crumby little Fly Ying HiPhone isn't the greatest video capturing device (although it snaps photos in better quality than my BlackBerry). So now the discussion turns away from "Sugar People" to BlackBerry - is there ANY way I can improve the quality of pictures? I'm tempted to hack into my old kyocera wild card to see if there is any way I could just use it to shoot photographs...

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
