Last night I was watching the old Marx Bros. movie "Horse Feathers" on TV. Such a crisp print- and it sounded like they cleaned up (perhaps dolby'd) the audio signal. One thing the era of film and television has done is make us feel like we should be ageless.
We are among the first generation of humans who have been touched by technology in such a way we don't want to depart. We don't want to leave this mortal coil. We wish we might live 4ever!
So the next time you make fun of The Rolling Stones or Willie Nelson or The Ronettes or Ali McGraw or Cher or Debbie Harry (or the late Donna Summer) or any other performer who has past the age of 60 or 70, cherish and take solace in the fact they will have been immoratalized and preserved on media.
Because time marches on. It waits for no one.
