How Often Should You Change Your Oil?

Not changing your oil can get you into big trouble.

Ever heard of people's engines smoking or even exploding? Many times it is because people fail to fill up their oil and change it. Your car needs oil to run smoothly. What kind of oil does your car need? If you donÕt know the answer to that question, you need to find out. There are a few ways to find this out. You can check your owner's manual. It may say what kind of oil is recommended for your car. If it does not, or you can't find the section, or maybe you have lost your owner's manual, don't fret. You can also take your car into a dealership or auto service shop. They can look under your hood and find out which type of oil is recommended.

So now that you know what type of oil to use, how often should you change it? Most places you will go will tell you that you need to get the oil changed every 3,000 miles or once every six months if you drive less than that. This is a very conservative estimate. Most cars can actually make it far past this, but taking risks with your car's engine should never be an option. Getting a check up every six months is a great idea, and it will make sure that your car and all its functions are running smoothly.

If you are looking for Las Vegas oil change specials, keep your eyes out online or in the paper. But make sure you are also getting the best work for your money. Going somewhere you can trust and rely on, is far better than getting the best deal. If you can find both of those in the same place, then wam bam, you have everything you need.

Make sure you are taking care of your car, especially the engine. It's an expensive replacement.

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
