SAVAGES ::: Movie Review

Blake Lively's narration in the new Oliver Stone picture "Savages" (based on the Don Winslow novel) is one of seemingly small insignificant pieces to a puzzle...

You know how a puzzle goes: a piece or two or three don't mean much when they are connected correctly to the others, forming a unique picture... that's how I describe "Savages." A little something in there for everyone of every age. It's a technique seen many times before. Look at the first "Star Wars" movie. It still stands up in 2012!

"Savages" (R) appears to be behind "the Amazing Spider Man" (PG-13) at the box office: as you would expect if you keep tabs on the sheeple.

I enjoyed the film: if you elect to go see it you won't be sorry. The most grounded review I have read is in The New Yorker, and you can have a look, if you like, here.

I'll add a quote from a CNN review: "'Savages' is violent enough to risk turning off a portion of the audience. Yet even as the movie descends into blood-spattered exploitation, it's revving up the suspense. When characters are threatened with stuff this brutal, you'd better believe there's something at stake."

5 out of 5 stars for SAVAGES! Movie TRAILER after the jump!

  1. This film definitely had its moments where it thrilled me and kept me excited, but for some reason, I felt like there could have been more of those moments. The cast is great though, with the exception of some dull performances from Lively and Kitsch. Honestly, that dude is having a bad year. Good review Dave.

  2. my hubby and I saw it - we loved it!!!

  3. I've been reading it's plot and other stuff and it is interesting. I've watched The Amazing Spiderman and was utterly disappointed. It wasn't that bad but it was nowhere near my expectations. Anyway it seems 'Savages; has some good critical response and I'll definitely look into it.
