Nothin' but RAGE from BlogEngage!

UPDATE ::: got an "order" via twitter "remove me from your spam email list"*****

A great HUGE D'oh there, as I rarely bother anybody via email! I don't have any list at all! I guess this fellow was slighted because he didn't get an INDIVIDUAL email? I would never offend anyone, and firmly apologize if my email led this gentleman to believe it to be spam.

Frankly, I'm puzzled. Someone so dedicated to helping blogs and bloggers goes off the rails because of a simple email asking for comments?? Perhaps prayers and good vibrations would help in this situation???

And now the original blog post:

You see it all the time "Blog gurus" telling you to "engage in email marketing"... so yesterday I took 'em up on it, sending out a rather small number of emails, approx. 25, *****I just checked - I actually emailed a grand total of 12 --- that's a big TWELVE people - hardly a "spam" list! to some hand-picked bloggers and others I trusted and believed would not be offended in any way by my action, asking them if they would read and comment on a particular post on my blog. Nothing unusual, right? Most of the time, people are on a mailing list they forgot they signed up for, or you and I just get hit with random spam. We delete and move on, right? (Or Gmail sends junk to the "spam" section - and we never see it!)

I only got a few replies. Plus the one below. Now, if that was me answering the mail, I would either just simply have brushed off and deleted the email as "spam" - or, would have written a brief note back and say I wasn't really interested in contributing. No need for foul language!

And from a respected entity like BlogEngage?

  1. He probly never thought youd print his email!

  2. hahaha guru gone mad!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Hi Dave!

Don't feel bad! I once ran an eZine (remember those days?) and not a week would go by without someone who had SUBSCRIBED complaining to my ISP! I eventually struck a deal with the ISP where a copy of every new subscriber email was sent to a file on their side.

Maybe Brian was having a bad day. The language is outrageous, adn I understand completely why you are defending yourself. Just don't bother emailing people at all.

  4. Dave, you are not the only one having this issue with Brian from blog engage. He is a bully and talks down to people to make himself feel better. Just google the keyword "blog engage scam" and you will see many many people are just as upset as you.

  5. Well Brian is known for not giving 2 shits about kids with Downs Syndrome. He's very rude and likes to profit off of unaware bloggers.

  6. Wow, Dave - those four words definitely speak loud and clear; I'm surprised Brian reacted that way.

Very unflattering, to say the least...

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
