WIPEOUT! RIP Hector Macho Comacho

There's always a day or a time when a "stunner" comes along... a totally out-of-left-field bit of information that shakes ya up or triggers a memory or triggers ultimate astonishment... I experienced one of those moments last week when I heard via BBC news that boxer Hector "Macho" Comacho had been shot.

His boxing career spanned an amazing FOUR DECADES! 79-6-3 with 38 knockouts! He himself was NEVER KO'd or stopped!

Comacho, along with Ali, Frazier, Tyson, Mancini and maybe a few others whose names I have forgotten, harkens back to a time when prizefighting was to the public as Ultimate Fighting is today. You may not think that boxing was changed by the arrival of the internet, but I believe otherwise.

Comacho's family allowed the removal of life-support equipment after it became obvious the champ would never come back - he had a lot of brushes with the law - let's face it - we all have our bright beautiful moments as well as our dark, ugly ones - those skeletons in the closet that no one knows but us. Macho was as we all are - human. He had a great smile. Dead at age 50. Only God will judge him now.
