Happy Holidays and Good Morning!

Good Morning everyone!

The time of Holiday Magick has finally come - many friends around the world are already deep into the Christmas Eve festivities. God Bless You all, and may you have a safe, prosperous New Year as well!

In life, things and people come and go, and sometimes it is better to LET GO, other times we have no choice. Yesterday I saw a tweet about Newsweek's last print edition. This morning while reading the AP wire, I saw where an old brick chimney that was Northville's answer to California's Capistrano mission had been torn down.

For half a century, Hubbell chimney was the destination for hundreds of chimney swifts. People would gather every 6th of May to watch the tiny birds complete an 8,000-mile journey from the Amazon — just like folks watch the swallows return to Capistrano on March 19.

Turns out the property owner tore down the chimney a few weeks ago because it was deteriorating. The flocks of chimney swifts had dwindled and so had the birdwatchers. Times change. People change. Things change. Life is change, how it differs from the rocks, someone once said.

Chris Cuomo tweeted something th eother day about buying a special gift for his young son that he had planned to give the child next year. The Newtown massacre changed his heart. Has it changed yours? Life, from time to time, can be intense, but deal it as calmly as you possibly can. There are times to keep quiet and keep to yourself, just as their are times to dance and be merry.

A short time ago I tweeted: "The Holiday Time is NOW!!!! Never let the things you want make you forget the things you already have!"

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
