BUZZ Blogger ::: Kim Roach has come up with a sure-fire way to kickstart your blog! Imagine getting more than a thousand hits on your newest post! One thing toubles me: when a post like this is released, all the "techniques" involved are suddenly being utilized by hundreds or even thousands of bloggers - for instance, a tip like "Once you’ve found a related blog that does link roundups you can then contact the blog owner and send them a link to your latest blog post" means the poor bloggers who publish round-ups may be in for a slew of unsolicited emails!Blogger's "Henhouse" Ravaged by Spam "Foxes"
I am astonished to see that a "model blogger" has made a major bungle - I discovered it by accident......when I recognized some spammers names appearing in comments on a recent "guest post" on one of Kiesha Easley's blogs! Tsk! Tsk! Ms. Easley not only put her own blog at risk, but the blogs and/or websites of her readers, who could possibly click themselves into a major computer infection!
I have saved to file the webpage comments as they appear August 30 2012 at 7:29pm New York time - in the event this post makes Kiesha do a little editing (and I hope she does!) - This is what happens when you leave things to automation - from right off the bat, "commenters" got wind that "nobody is home" at WeBlogBetter.com - so, of course, with the door wide open, they barged right in! They zeroed in on THIS POST...
Are You Kidding Me, Kiesha?
Trusting automation not the only thing blogger Kiesha did wrong! Hit up any of the spams on her blog and you are GONE fromWeBlogBetter.com!!! That's a HUGE no-no! Ideally, when a reader clicks on a link in a comment, it should open in a new window and NOT "disconnect" the reader from the website! Viruses and trojans are spread this way, for hevvinsake! And it shocks me - Kiesha Easley is well-known and respected among bloggers!
Coincidentally, email from Kiesha's site when a new comment appears bears the originating address information "brandonacox.com" - which is a religious blog. Who knows, maybe the site does email work for other bloggers? Anyway ---Here's a case of Comments Gone Wild - way off topic on a major website! Take A Look!!!
I love my blogspot! COMMENTS ARE CUSTOMIZABLE! If you use blogspot and want to adjust your "comments" settings, do it now before the old blogger interface is gone forever! HERE'S HOW!!!

Tomatoes Я Christian?
Are tomatoes Christian? Check out Angie Nassar's blog post on Now Lebanon Blog, where she comments on news that a Salafist group in Egypt has posted reservations on tomatoes on Facebook. It seems that when cut open, a tomato resembles a cross - as it does in this obviously "stretched" picture!ǝsןǝ ǝuoʎɹǝʌǝ ǝʞıן - ɹnoɯnɥ ɟo ǝsuǝs ɐ ǝʌɐɥ sɯıןsnɯ puɐ - ooʇ ǝןdoǝd ǝɹɐ sɯıןsnɯ 'ǝǝs noʎ ¡ǝɹıʇɐs sı sıɥʇ 'ɥɔunq ɐ uı sǝıʇɹoɥs ɹnoʎ ʇǝb noʎ ǝɹoɟǝq

The Dave Lucas Digital Poetry Project
I create unique verses and accompanying images out of love for poetry! I invite you to support my art and effort and consider making a donation: I want to be able to give electronic tools to those who need them the most and build a proprietary supersocial network. I'm giving the project a full year to get up on its legs and then get off the ground! (And should you donate even a penny, you will receive updates on the network status. Write poetry? Say so and you will be entered as a member!)
The fundraising tool I am using asks for a definite amount of money as a goal. Obviously, more is better when one is trying to distribute electronic equipment to people who may be in faraway lands. It is also my goal to accomplish this as inexpensively as possible, whenever possible.
Think of a budding poet in another country. It could be someone in Africa, India, China or even right here in North America. I crunched some numbers down and arrived at an average of about $200 per person to pay the bills to get them started and sustain them for several months. That figure assumes distributions to people among nations will be generally equal.
Initially, I'd like to enroll 1 individual every month for the next 10 months. That comes to $2000, which is the figure displayed in the donation box.
Tim Pool says "Don't hate the media, be the media."
Dave Lucas says "Be the media through poetry!"
They say that everyone has a song in his or her heart - one way to express that song is through poetry. You don't need a particular voice, you don't need good looks, you can be 5 years old or 105. Poetry makes words magical.
In the coming weeks I hope to start classes involving writing and distributing poetry via Mobile/Social/Streaming technologies incorporating various strategies including microcasting, blogging and microblogging - an initiative of enormous magnitude with the potential for social change not seen since the activist days of Gil Scott Heron.
Imagine a digital generation of Byrons and Shelleys, Dylans and Donovans and Seegers...

Some Blog Posts Don't fly
Ever write an article and upload it to your blog, thinking "this will certainly attract readers," only to find out later that it doesn't seem to be "registering" either on search engines or with your readers? You could try tweeting about it or "pinning" it if you created an interesting original image...
I just wonder sometimes how supposedly "sure-fired winners" end up as duds. Of course in the same space I can attest that seemingly "junk" or "throwaway" posts I've written bring in readers daya fter day years on... I'm talking about 1 or 2 readers a day, steadily, all the time. No explanation!
Do you have an unusual blogging story? I'd love to hear about it... contact me by email or use "comments" or "facebook comments" below.

The jury foreman watched a movie then decided to sway the entire #Apple vs. Samsung jury to one side!
Here’s my personal list of car radio presets:

My presets are by no means a complete list of all of the amazing radio choices between Albany and New York City - the stations I have listed are limited by the number of presets on my car radio!
90.7 - WFUV (New York City) is Fordham University's 50,000-watt, non-commercial radio station, with studios on campus and its antenna atop nearby Montefiore Medical Center. Lots of great music - since a lot of the NPR programming is picked up by WNYC.
Moving up the Hudson Valley, WGXC is the "Community radio station" licensed to Acra, owned & operated by Free103point9. The station serves Greene and Columbia Counties, but I can listen almost all the way to Albany: There's a "Sound of Life" Christian radio station that cancels out WGXC about a mile before the Thuuway Exit 23 toll booths.
There's a NULL between WFUV and WGXC (depending on atmospheric conditions), although I have from time to time been able to listen to WFUV as far north as
By the way, kudos to WFUV's Rita Houston - honored as the Music Director of the Year for non-commercial stations on August 11 in Boulder CO.

Insect Eggs on Badminton Net
While there are indeed more substantial problems facing the world today, mine, at this moment, involves the identification of insects that apparently have decorated my badminton net with tiny eggs. When first deposited, the eggs are white and glistening, turning darker after a few days.
Above/Below ::: Here are the culprits, a little out of focus, but you get the idea!
The general consensus on the internet is that these are Salt Marsh Caterpillar eggs. Could that be true?Let's scrape some of the eggs off the net for safekeeping. We'll bring them inside so we can keep a more watchful eye on the inhabitants.
Call this post "a work in progress" as I will be back to either update and/or comment on the latest developments as the story unfolds...
See You At Mudfest?
You may have missed Saturday afternoon's "Kick-off" events, but there's plenty on tap for today: an ecumenical worship service at 9am in the Town Green, a muckboot march from the Green to the Water Treatment Plant at 11am, and a whole list of events happening throughout the day: at Devasego park there will be a Muddy Tug-of-war Tournament, a Muddy Volleyball Tournament, a rock climbing wall, a dunk tank, a muddy slip &slide, music by DJ Fast Eddy, good food, and other events; at the Town Green there will be carnival rides for the kids, crafts for the kids, fun with the RedNose Responder clowns, games and contests for the kids, live bands playing, good food, and plenty more; at the new Devasego Park there will be a craft fair featuring many local artisans and businesses, as well as live bands, and other fun. Oh, and we can't forget the area businesses involved: the Great American, Beth's Cafe, the Pratt Museum, Agway, as well as Prattsville's Tavern, Diner, Art Center, and Reformed Church will also be hosting everything from sales and delicious fun foods to art exhibits and book signings.Saturday, August 25, 2012
Hurricane Timeline
Photo by Frank WathleyShould you notice while watching weather forecasts on TV or checking them online that a severe storm is apparently forming, you can estimate the number of days you have until your locality might be affected. Again, the farther north you are, the longer it may take for the hurricane or tropical storm to reach you.
I have a bit of national interest timeline content below - if you are looking for a more concentrated dose of information centering on New York State, check the Watershed Post. If you'd like to see VIDEO, my colleague Elaina Athans produced this piece for YNN in the aftermath of Irene and Lee, when NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo visited farms in Ulster and Orange county. I also have a link to video I shot in Catskill around that time. Some communities were hit harder than others, but everyone that took the hit, almost everyone, has recovered or at least made progress toward "normalcy."
20 August 2911 :::The 9th named storm, first hurricane, and first major hurricane of the 2011 hurricane season, Irene originated from a well-defined Atlantic tropical wave that began showing signs of organization east of the Lesser Antilles. Due to development of atmospheric convection and a closed center of circulation, the system was designated as Tropical Storm Irene on August 20, 2011.
Hurricane Irene was a large and very destructive tropical cyclone, which affected much of the Caribbean and East Coast of the United States during the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season, and became the fifth costliest U.S. hurricane on record.
21 August 2011 ::: After intensifying, Irene made landfall in St. Croix as a strong tropical storm later that day. Early on August 21, the storm made a second landfall in Puerto Rico. While crossing the island, Irene strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane. The storm paralleled offshore of Hispaniola, continued to slowly intensify in the process. Shortly before making four landfalls in the Bahamas, Irene peaked as a 120 mph (195 km/h) Category 3 hurricane.
28/29 august 2011 ::: Thereafter, the storm slowly leveled-off in intensity as it struck the Bahama and then curved northward after passing east of Grand Bahama. Continuing to weaken, Irene was downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane before making landfall on the Outer Banks of North Carolina on August 27, becoming the first hurricane to make landfall in the United States since Hurricane Ike in 2008. Early on the following day, the storm re-emerged into the Atlantic from southeastern Virginia. Although Irene remained a hurricane over land, it weakened to a tropical storm while making yet another landfall in southeastern New Jersey on August 28. A few hours later, Irene made its ninth and final landfall in Brooklyn, New York City. Early on August 29, Irene transitioned into an extratropical cyclone near the Vermont/New Hampshire border, after remaining inland as a tropical cyclone for less than 12 hours.
KATRINA
23 August 2005 ::: Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas on August 23, 2005 and crossed southern Florida as a moderate Category 1 hurricane, causing some deaths and flooding there before strengthening rapidly in the Gulf of Mexico.
Sixth strongest of all Atlantic hurricanes recorded, Katrina was the deadliest and most destructive Atlantic hurricane of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season. It is the costliest natural disaster, as well as one of the five deadliest hurricanes, in the history of the United States.
Facebook Fact & Fallacy
CAPITAL ::: At the moment, the powers behind FB don't seem to worried about falling prices on Wall Street ::: indeed, they may be profiting from the IPO in ways you never imagined. Is some or all of this money being pumped back into FB? After all, somebody has to pay for the company's fancy new digs...
CUSTOMERS ::: Facebook Will hit 1 Billion users any minute... the most recent official tally released by the firm is 955 million users. But some question just how many of those accounts are fake. No one knows for sure.
According to the Forrester Research report, "The Facebook Factor: Quantifying the Impact of a Facebook Fan on Brand Interactions," - BlackBerry Facebook fans are 4X more likely to recommend the brand to friends and family
- Coca Cola Facebook fans are almost 50% more likely to consider a brand purchase
- Best Buy Facebook fans are almost 2X as likely to have purchasedfrom the brand in the last 12 months.
And the question still remains: how to effectively monetize m.facebook.com?

Which brings us to
DIRECTION ::: Facebook has already had a "technorati moment" or two, where the geeks muck up something that was perfect... they've also had a "google moment" or two, where the geeks fix something that isn't broken. Now, there's a slight difference between those two categories. If you've been reading blogs since 2002 or so, you know what I mean.

Blog Income Report December 2012
"I made $100,000 last month." ~ you, in your wildest blogging dreamsWouldn't you love to join that elite group of bloggers who beat their breasts and pat themselves on the back each and very month as they share their blog's monthly earnings report with their readers?
I may not be able to get you up to six-figures. Maybe not even three. But I do have a couple of great ideas how to leverage your blog traffic thru some techniques that have worked for me.
(1) Stats (if you use Google stats, you're in business, but others will suffice) - investigate which articles you've posted have drawn the most traffic over the past 7, 14 or 30 days. Then, examine each individual post. (2) Social Media and email signature ::: you should have your blog's URL placed in the signature of every email that goes out from any of your accounts. You should be displaying your blog URL on your twitter header and on your facebook or LinkedIn page. Is there a new website in your community that is spreading news? A lot of new "online local papers" have popped up - take a look at this one...
(3) Offline advertising and PR ::: Spend a few dollars, pounds or pesos and take out an ad in your local newspaper or weekly - I'm sure your community has a small indie paper - it can be a line ad (classified) or a small display ad. Use your online skills to design an ad the paper can use!
(BONUS)
If you are an Entrecard user, you may be familiar with blogs that publish a "top ec droppers" list every month (some publish one that continually updates). They're missing the "pot of gold" that waits at the end of the EC rainbow. Go into your EC dash, click on "more stats" and look for "Top clicks by widget" and "Best value by widget" - the top performers on these two widgets are places you should channel a few advertising dolars toward!
Having typed all that, please pay attention to this: do NOT publish a "monthly earnings" or "blog income report." While you may dazzle (or not) your readers, you're also asking for trouble! HERE'S WHY!

Xiaxue's Cover Girl Moment!
All those nutty blogging gurus put together don't hold a candle to one true "guru": Xiaxue! I began reading her blog when she first began it - years ago when she had no idea that blog*spot was going to deliver her to a land that wouldn't have been possible without the internet. For Wendy Cheng, things fell into place, magically. Just the right timing! She stepped into a pile of luck most of us will never see. And I love her for it! I'm thousands of miles away, watching this kid grow into a young woman, her blog turn into an international sensation and then a TV show... and marriage... and now this! Cover girl! Atta girl!
Xiaxue shares all on her blog. Click the link above or click on the picture. Yes, she is still on blog*spot!
A Case For Full Disclosure (Just My Opinion)

She was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th.
The girl, whose name is not being released due to her age, has had numerous contacts with the Albany Police since 2009, mostly in reference to stealing from cars. Her first contact was at the age 9 after she stole a cell phone from a bus driver. In October of 2011, she was arrested for possession of stolen property after she was caught on State Street with a stolen purse and I-Pod. She also had an arrest in October of 2010, at Madison and Willet Street ,after she again was caught stealing from cars.
On Sunday August 19, 2012, Officers arrested two Myrtle Avenue teens after they were caught with stolen property following a car larceny in Washington Park. Officers responded to the park after receiving a call that the two teens were breaking into a car. Officers caught up with the teens moments later and located stolen property, burglary tools, and a pellet gun.
The one teen, who is 15 years of age, was in possession of a GPS Unit that was later determined to be stolen from a car parked inside of Washington Park. He was also in possession of a metal wrench that he was using to break car windows in order to gain entry. He was charged with Criminal Mischief 4th, Petit Larceny, and Possession of Burglar Tools.
He has had several contacts with the Albany Police since 2010, including two other arres...
In other countries they might be called "street urchins" and the locals know they're bad news! These youngsters represent the same cut of "kids" who one day may get their hands on a gun and shoot a guy like BAILEY. The public needs to know WHO they are! Also, like Joe Sullivan says: NO FREE BUS RIDES for those who previously had run-ins with the law, especially burglaries! Let's not TEMPT them!

Cloud-based Antivirus Software
Finally - the "Cloud" is good for SOMEthing?Y'all know how much I despise the whole "cloud computing" concept.
Well, for ONCE, the cloud may actually be beneficial, but in this ONE SCENARIO ONLY!
Panda is offering a FREE centrally managed antivirus. I'm giving it a go. But my beloved Malwarebytes and Avast aren't going anywhere!
My current antivirus spends considerable time each day updating definitions - Malwarebytes checks for and asks permission to download updates whenever I execute the file: Security threats are continually evolving, and any solution you are employing must download the latest updates to protect your computer.
In the case of a cloud-based antivirus, proponents claim virus definitions are updated seamlessly and immediately for all of those utilizing the software.
WARNING!!! I will continue to recommend keeping an "old-fashioned" AV program on your PC or laptop. If a virus or trojan strikes and disables your internet connection capabilities, you won't be able to contact the cloud AV for assistance. That's called "screwed."

I'm having an affair. What should I do?
"Sex is no more a moral issue than eating a good meal." ~ Catherine Hakim"After marriage a woman needs to keep one eye closed." ~ ancient Chinese proverb
"Watch Match Point, then make your lifestyle choice." ~ Dave Lucas
Regrettably, some folks walking the planet who have "papers" on someone else, sometimes choose a path of questionable integrity. There have been affairs through the ages, some of which were kept totally secret, others that exploded (think Tiger Woods) onto front pages, social media and television screens.
Whatever the outcome of a rogue relationship, the ultimate acceptance or rejection of such an act lies within the mind(s) of the two involved and balances on the way each, individually and together, carries out the extracurricular mission.
Now, Catherine Hakim weighs in ::: "As dating websites open up a global shop window of sexual possibilities, as life expectancy continues to rise and we become increasingly sexually aware, how can we still take the crushing old rules of fidelity, that turn marriage into a prison, for granted? Why should we not be able to recapture the heady thrills of youth, while protecting a secure home life?"

Entrecard PR, Googlebots, AdSense and Scraper Blogs
Blogs featuring a layout like this (most of them are WordPress blogs)one can not only carry viruses back to your computer, they can damage your blog's ability to earn money by sabotaging your good standing with search engines and advertising services! Have a look at the blog and then look at where it "borrowed" copy from! Could this be PLR?Scraper blogs are again showing up on entrecard - most have the same theme and layout you see in the example above. A friend of mine who works one of the big search engines emailed me a warning about these types of blogs: (mouseover and clcik on the image below to better read the chilling news it brings)
So you see: Bots can be dangerous! case in point: In March I received a DMCA Takedown (copyright violation) notice on an old post dating back to 2007.The notice came as a result of a link I had placed in the sidebar to a live radio station stream, which happened be playing a song that I mentioned on the post at the exact moment a "sniffer bot" passed thru my URL!
The bot thought I was streaming the song illegally - so I took both the post and the link to the radio station down!

5 Reasons you should use PLR articles for your blog!
There's a lot of buzz throughout the blogsophere this weekend concerning PLR.If you are an online business owner - a coach, affiliate marketer, or blogger - you've probably heard the term PLR or Private Label Rights.
Private Label Rights articles aka PLR articles, are articles you can buy (usually sold in packages) and then legally use as your own. You can edit them, re-write them, add your name as the author, and your own resource box at the end of each article! PLR articles are used by a lot of "blogging gurus" - and you thought they wrote their own stuff!
You're thinking: So should I use private label rights articles for my blog? YES! You need to get eductaed on how to MIX PLR content into your own - it's like baking - Bakery A and Bakery B use the same basic ingredients - but Bakery A is packed with customers daya fter day while Bakery B barely makes enough money to squeak by. Their prices are actually lower or the same as Bakery A, but "A" has a few techniques and secrets to the way they COMBINE (mix) ingredients. Ya get what I'm sayin' here?
