5 Ways to Budget Your Finances on Any Income

The biggest obstacle challenging folks these days (blogger or not) is establishing and funding that "emergency" account that just about everyone who has anything to say about your money advises. Advisors also urge paring down your monthly expenses. But most of us believe we've cust so close to the bone that there is nothing left to pare.

Time out! I offer suggestions. Slash those monthlies even further - (1) $10 a month iPhone (2) Kill Cable altogether - buy a good digital TV antenna - borrow dvds from the library - download videos and tv programs and burn your own dvd-player-friendly Video CDs (3) Use a free wi-fi hotspot or free internet service - there are free broadband and dialups out there! (4) If you are in relatively good health, BANK that $150 a month for health insurance. And check on those Dr. fees: I spent a half-day last year for lab work, check-up and Rx renewals/updates. I noticed the total bill was LESS than my bi-weekly premium! If you can get by a few months without expensive health insurance before it becomes mandatory under Obama and save the cash, you will feel better and see the light at the end of the financial tunnel!

Also, it is SPRING - (5) time to plant veggies - think about creating nutritious summer meals and look into home canning and preserving - and cancel that gym membership! Run around the block, exercise at home. Resist the urge to drive to anything within reasonable walking distance. Both you and your wallet will be healthier!

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
