My Move to WordPress (Part One)

Dave Lucas Reports (3:30) has been up and running since last Autumn:

At the time, I wasn't sure where the blog was going or what it would become. I knew I wanted to get back to my blogging roots... Steve Rubel may be "EVP/Global Strategy and Insights for Edelman, the world’s largest independent public relations firm," but Mr. Steve suffers from the delusion he is on the cutting edge of internet trends and social marketing. He wants to be your "go to guy" when it comes to the future of media. Rubel is smart in that he has buried his post proclaiming Posterous as King.

Steve Rubel should be the LAST guy you go to: in '09 when I read that Rubel was nukeing his blog in favor of Lifestreaming and choosing Posterous as his new platform - I could only recall similar misguided souls who, back around '06 '07, tried convincing anyone dumb enough to pay attention that "vlogging" was about to bury blogging! (there are still a few idiots around who apparently just got wind of this and wasted a lot of time trumpeting it on the net).

At the time, I followed along, sorta kinda - I jumped on Posterous but soon discovered I had boarded the wrong bus.

I regard Rubel and others like him as "Blogosphere Collapse Theorists" who get lots of attention by continuously saying "blogging is dead" while doing their darndest to kill it. They will not succeed.

  1. Hi Dave,

Great post, I think blogging is here for the long haul. Google loves it so much and so do millions of other people.

It's a shame that people can't admit when they are wrong, it is like when people said email marketing was dead and then came the smart phone and blew that out of the water.

    Hope to connect with you,

    Beth :)

Because, like the fine publication Tablet, whom I borrowed this concept from, I too am committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing I'm able to provide, all free of charge. I take pride in my loyal readership, and I'm thrilled that you choose to engage with me in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse).

I'm asking people who'd like to post comments on my blog to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping me bring you the provocative and/or entertaining articles that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with me FREE of charge via Facebook comments and Google+ comments! You can also reach me via Twitter @davelucas

I hope this new largely symbolic measure will help create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all! Those of you who choose to contribute, thanks for your support.
