XP OptionsSo, what to do if you're still running Windows XP on your home PC?
On its website, Microsoft suggests two options: upgrade to a newer, supported version of Windows. Or buy a new PC.
If you simply must keep using Windows XP, there are a few things you can do to improve your security:
- Set up a home firewall to keep out malicious network traffic. I recommend the free edition of ZoneAlarm. And check out your security here.
- Second, use a web browser that isn't Internet Explorer. I recommend a combination of Maxthon and, for browsing under the radar, Off-by-One.
- Third, an antivirus product that is up-to-date and easy to use is helpful if you're often poking around on questionable or XXX sites. You don't really need an AV program. Maybe an anti-spyware program like Malwarebytes...
