I love good advice, but pay no attention to those who would have you possibly screw up your blog in order to align it stylistically with what those self-absorbed guru "blogging experts" demand. Yes, I know, blah blah blah the minimalist look is "in."
Betcha didn't know your blog ALREADY has a minimalist look (if you're on blogger!)
Here are TWO minimalist views of this very blog you are reading: my favorite is the mobile version. It meets all the "specs" called for in the "Useless elements" article.
This next one will display differently in different browsers on different systems. It is the feedburner version of my blog, also minimalist.
I don't know if alternatives are available for WordPress and other platforms. (If they are please leave them in the comments!) But the lesson here is twofold:
(1) Bloggers, don't jump if someone says to do this or do that
(2) You have just saved hours of time and numerous headaches and things you'd be sorry you'd done later on down the road! BLOG ON!

Hey David!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! You just saved me many hours! Six months from now the gurus will be telling everone to have two sidebars!

Hey Dave,
ReplyDeleteSo I read Adam's post and I agree with a lot of what he said. Granted, you shouldn't always just take anyone's advice about things but if you have questions as to why they are suggesting some changes then I say ask them and then you can make your own changes.
Since I'm on WordPress I can only speak for WordPress users of course.
I'm not sure about different versions displaying differently either in the different browsers. I kind of hope they wouldn't because that would just confuse people. Thinking they're on one blog because of the initial look but then it's something totally different.
Anyway, that's my view on this and we definitely all have our own thoughts right! That's what makes the world go round.
Have a great rest of your week Dave.
