  • Go to Topsy.com

Clinton Foundation, Rebecca Winthrop, Director of the Center
for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution, and Kennedy
Odede, Founder of Shining Hope for Communities, for an online
discussion on the state of global education for girls.

We have seen the threat against girls' education made real again,

this time in the horrific kidnapping in Nigeria. Through this
conversation, No Ceilings: The Full Participation Project, will
highlight the gains we have made in girls' education around the
world over the past twenty years and the gaps that still remain,
as well as discuss policies and programs that are working to
improve education for girls.

You are critical to this conversation on why girls' education is

essential to communities, economies, and societies.
RSVP to watch the Google Hangout live and contribute to the
 discussion by submitting your questions.

Who Is VStiviano? -- NYMagazine

#TheVoiceKidsPhilippines

The young people of 2014 seem bewitched by and beholden to the media. They live and die by celebrity-tweets, they worship "idols" and waste time watching "The Voice," "America's Got Talent," "Dancing With The Stare," etc. And that's during the time they manage to extricate themselves from their smartphones and other devices.

#TheVoiceKidsPhilippines is a top-trending topic worldwide on twitter. Harmless entertainment crafted by "big brother media" to pacify the masses, keep their minds occupied. Nonetheless, true talent, exceptional artistry and real creativity in raw form, un-embellished by the unblinking eye of teevee, still exist: the young poets and revolutionaries of this time, this moment in history are embracing modern media, and I want you to experience one!
Filmon Bereket, 17, a Grade 11 student at Monarch Park Collegiate in Toronto's east end, recites a poem he wrote for his school's Black History Month assembly after attending an inspiring conference for black youth at Ryerson University last winter. Full story ("African Heritage Educators Network celebrates young black achievers in a time of crisis")in The Toronto Star.

Switch Back To Old Twitter 2014

Well, maybe not. Is my headline misleading? No more than the one offered by the Digital Times: "Twitter's Facebook Redesign: How To Get Back Old Twitter Layout And Avoid Using The Latest Interface [PHOTOS] [UPDATE]"

HATE the facebookified twitter? You are not alone.

According to DT: For those that have received the new Twitter redesign there is no off switch. These guys obviously learned how to ram unwanted un-needed changes down users' throats from observing Google's forced changes to blogger and reader.

HASTINGS HIGH SCHOOL ADVANCES TO NYS ENVIROTHON FINALS

Hastings High School students (from right to left) - Melissa Shandroff, Veronica Erdman, Miranda Mitchell, Clara Weinstein, Ariadne Bazigos and Alexandra Bazigos.

For the third year in a row, Hastings High School was Westchester’s highest-scoring team in the Hudson Valley Regional Envirothon – earning them a spot at the New York State Envirothon later this month.
Of the 24 teams participating from high schools around the region, Hastings ranked fifth in the 2014 regional competition held April 30 at the Sharpe Reservation in Fishkill. The two teams from The Mount Academy in Ulster County placed first and second. Chatham High School in Columbia County placed third.
The primary goal of the Envirothon is to encourage students to learn about the natural environment and to become good stewards of the land. The competing teams, each made up of five students, are tested on their knowledge of five environmental topics: soils, aquatics, forestry, wildlife and current environmental issues. In preparation for the events, students develop research skills, practice team building and gain an appreciation for consensus decision making. The Hastings High School team was led by their teacher, Melissa Shandroff.
On May 21-22, the highest scoring team from each county will compete in the New York State Envirothon at Morrisville State College in Morrisville, N.Y.
“Congratulations to the team from Hastings High School, whose members advance to represent the county in the state finals,” said Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino. “I am proud of the students’ achievements and the excellent efforts of all our Westchester teams.”
Eight teams from five Westchester schools participated:
·      John Jay High School, Katonah-Lewisboro School District
·      Hastings High School
·      Ossining High School
·      Yorktown High School
·      Tech Center High School, Putnam-Northern Westchester BOCES, Yorktown Heights
The Westchester County Department of Planning and Soil and Water Conservation District co-sponsored the Hudson Valley regional competition and will co-sponsor Hastings High Schools’ participation in the New York State competition.
